Washing curtains depends on the type of fabric and the washing instructions on the label. Follow these steps for a fresh and neat result, but always follow the care label, this is always correct!
1. Check the care label.
First check the care label for specific instructions. Some curtains can be machine washed, while others should only be dry cleaned.
2. Preparing for washing
Shake or tap the curtains to remove any loose dust and dirt. Remove any hooks or other loose parts to prevent damage to your curtain (and washing machine).
3. Washing with the right program and detergent
Are your curtains machine washable? Then wash them separately, without other laundry, and make sure the drum is not too full. Use a gentle wash cycle with cold or lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid bleach, as it can effect the colour and texture of your curtain.
4. Drying without wrinkles
Hang the curtains immediately after washing to prevent wrinkles. If you hang them up while still damp, they'll dry without wrinkling.
5. Ironing or steaming (if necessary)
Check the care label to see whether the curtains can be ironed and if so, at what temperature. You can also steam the curtains with a handheld steamer.
F.Y.I.
For delicate or valuable curtains that cannot be machine washed, dry cleaning may be the best option. Always consult the instructions provided on the care label for the best care of your curtains.
