Washing your HOOMstyle washable duvet regularly not only ensures a fresh smell and a clean feeling, but also contributes to a hygienic and comfortable sleeping environment. Because you wash the entire duvet - and not just a separate cover - you also remove dirt, dust and bacteria from the filling. It really makes for a much better night's sleep.
Which size will fit in my washing machine?
When it comes to washable duvets, it is not only the washing machine's capacity in kilos that matters, but especially the space in the drum. The duvet must have enough room to move during washing and drying. Is it packed too tightly in the drum? Then the filling may not get properly clean, may dry unevenly or could even be damaged.
That is why we provide advice based on the washing machine's load capacity. In practice, this often says the most about the size of the drum.
Recommended washing machine size per duvet
Warmth class 4 / Summer duvets (100 g/m²)
Thanks to their light and airy filling, these duvets take up much less space in the drum. As a result, even larger sizes can surprisingly easily be washed at home.

That is precisely why we have made the summer versions extra generous in size. The 260x220 cm summer duvet fits beautifully over an all-year duvet when you combine them in winter, while its light filling means it remains practical to wash at home.
Warmth class 2 / All-year duvets (300 g/m²)
Our all-year duvets contain a fuller and thicker filling and therefore take up much more space in the drum.

A 240x220 cm twin all-year duvet in particular often proves difficult to fit into a standard household washing machine. This is not only due to its size, but especially to the fuller 300 g/m² filling, which takes up much more volume.
HOOMstyle TIP
Do you have a smaller washing machine but a large double bed? Then combining an all-year duvet with a lighter summer duvet is often ideal. This way, you can enjoy extra comfort while keeping washing at home practical.
Many customers also consciously choose 2 separate single duvets instead of one large duvet. They are easier to wash, dry faster and prevent pulling in bed.
Washing instructions
1. Give your duvet room:
A washable duvet weighs approximately 1.5 to 2 kilos, but its filling means it takes up more space. It is important that the duvet has enough room in the machine otherwise you risk damaging your duvet, which would be a shame! That is why we recommend always washing duvets individually and paying close attention to the recommended machine load capacities for each duvet size. Never put another product in with the duvet either, as this increases the risk of damage.
2. Follow the washing instructions:
To keep your washable duvet looking and feeling good, it is really important to follow the washing instructions carefully. In most cases, use a maximum temperature of 30 degrees and choose a gentle cycle. Use a detergent suitable for lower temperatures so that it can work effectively.
3. Use the right detergent:
Follow the recommended amount of detergent. Using too much detergent can cause white streaks or stains on the bedding. Use a detergent suitable for the prescribed maximum temperature.
4. Drying:
It is important to get your duvet completely dry. We recommend drying it in the tumble dryer at a low temperature. This helps keep the fabric looking good for longer and the filling nice and airy. A useful tip is to add so-called dryer balls - these help keep the filling loose and evenly distributed. Make sure the duvet is completely dry before taking it out of the dryer. Of course, you can also allow the washable duvet to dry (partly) outdoors.
5. Storage:
Store your clean bedding in a clean and dry place. Avoid direct sunlight and make sure the storage area is well ventilated.
