Good towels deserve the right care. By washing them correctly, they stay wonderfully soft, absorb moisture optimally and retain their luxurious appearance, wash after wash.
The first wash is the most important part. With a few simple steps, you can prepare the cotton fibers optimally, so you can enjoy Boutique's quality from the very first use. After that, caring for them is fortunately very simple.
The first wash: the foundation for years of comfort
New towels deserve a good start. During the first wash, the cotton fibers get the chance to fully open up, allowing them to reach their maximum absorbency more quickly. Take a little time for this; you will notice the difference for years.
Step 1 – Give the towels a cold start
Preferably soak the towels in cold water for a few hours or overnight. This helps the natural cotton fibers open up properly, allowing them to absorb moisture more effectively.
This can easily be done in the washing machine on a cold cycle or in a bucket or bathtub.
Step 2 – The first wash
Then wash the towels with a splash of natural vinegar.
Do not use detergent or fabric softener during the first wash.
This gives the cotton fibers the chance to fully develop without a layer forming around the fibers that could affect their absorbency.
Want to enjoy a wonderfully fresh scent right away? Feel free to add a splash of laundry perfume or a handful of laundry scent beads.
Step 3 – Dry thoroughly
After washing, you can dry the towels at a low temperature in the dryer or let them air-dry gently.
After this first wash, your towels are ready for years of daily use.
After that, care is simple
Have your towels had their first wash? Fortunately, caring for them is then very simple. With the tips below, they will stay soft, fresh and absorbent for years.
Sort by color
Wash light and dark colors separately as much as possible. This keeps the colors looking good for longer and prevents them from bleeding onto one another.
If you have enough towels, preferably wash them together with other bath textiles. This keeps the fabrics looking good and prevents unnecessary wear from zippers, buttons or other garments.
Give the towels enough space
Do not overfill the washing machine. Towels need enough space to get properly clean and move freely through the water.
Also, do not leave wet towels in the washing machine unnecessarily long after the cycle has finished. This can cause them to develop a musty smell.
Do not use too much detergent
More detergent does not make towels cleaner. Residual detergent can actually build up between the cotton fibers, causing the towel to absorb moisture less effectively.
It is therefore better to use a normal dose or even slightly less rather than too much.
We advise against using fabric softener. Although it may make towels feel softer temporarily, fabric softener forms a thin layer around the cotton fibres. This reduces absorbency.
Would you like extra-soft towels? Then add a splash of white vinegar from time to time. This helps keep the fibres supple and is also beneficial for your washing machine. For white towels, you can optionally add a small amount of washing soda to keep them looking fresh.
Washing at the right temperature
For normal daily use, 40°C is usually sufficient.
Would you like to wash the towels extra hygienically, for example after intensive use? Then 60°C is an excellent choice.
Thanks to modern detergents, higher temperatures are usually no longer necessary.
Drying
A tumble dryer keeps cotton towels wonderfully soft. Preferably use a low temperature to preserve the quality of the cotton fibres.
Would you rather air-dry your towels? Hang them with plenty of space between them so that air can circulate properly and they dry evenly.

Why do new towels initially absorb less moisture?
New cotton towels only reach their maximum absorbency after the first wash. By treating them according to our washing advice first, the cotton fibres can open up optimally and absorb moisture much better afterwards.
Why is fabric softener not recommended?
Fabric softener forms a thin layer around the cotton fibres. This makes towels feel softer temporarily, but they absorb less moisture. For optimal absorbency, it is therefore best to avoid fabric softener.
How often should I wash towels?
For a fresh and hygienic result, we recommend washing towels after approximately three to five uses. With intensive use, you can of course wash them more often.
